Mandalay on the ID. Buzz
Mandalay is our rock and roll bed layout.
The Mandalay takes the full Chamonix build, with the same kitchen, materials and hand-built furniture, and changes the bed and seating. In place of the slat bed it has a 3/4-width Smart Beds rock and roll bed mounted on rails, which slides forward for boot space by day and rolls back for maximum living space when you camp. It converts from forward-facing seats to a double bed, and adds belted rear travelling seats that are M1 crash-tested, so the Mandalay can carry rear passengers. A narrow side cupboard adds storage alongside, and there’s significant extra storage under the floor. Add the Horizon pop-top and the Mandalay becomes a full 4-berth: two below, two more in the roof.

This is a complete, working campervan, ready to camp: the rock and roll bed on rails, belted rear seats, full kitchen, habitation electrics, insulation, lining, flooring and lighting are all built in. Everything listed under What’s included comes as standard, at no extra cost.

For example, the conversion with the Horizon pop-top (a 4-berth) comes to £30,745.
The removable solid wood table is included as standard on the Mandalay. Most customers add two side windows.
4. The base vehicle, bought separately
From around £27,600 used, or £38,340 new after the grant.
The vehicle is invoiced by the VW dealer, not by us. See the ID. Buzz page for vehicle pricing and sourcing.
Your total = conversion + any add-ons + vehicle. As a guide, a Mandalay with the Horizon pop-top on a used Buzz comes to around £59,485 all in.

The Chamonix keeps the same kitchen and build but uses a pull-out slat bed and a bench, with front seats only, for the most open interior. Pick the Mandalay if you need rear seats or want the van to work as a daily driver. Pick the Chamonix for the more generous, open-plan space.
