The VW ID. Buzz draws a smile wherever it goes. Underneath the charm it is a strong base for a fully electric camper: one of the best ranges of any van we convert, fast charging, and a flat, usable loadspace. We’ve been converting the ID. Buzz since it arrived in the UK, and we offer three designs on it: the Chamonix, the Mandalay and the Surf Buzz. We convert the short-wheelbase Cargo model only.
A complete campervan
What you actually get to camp with, across our three designs.

- Up to 250 real-world miles, fully fossil-fuel-free, with no gas on board
- Two to six belted seats depending on the design, so it can work for the family and as a daily driver
Why the ID. Buzz
An icon, and an award-winner
The ID. Buzz arrived to a run of awards few vans ever earn: Top Gear Electric Car of the Year, What Car? Car of the Year, and a GQ Car Award. Volkswagen invented the campervan with the original Bus, and the ID. Buzz carries that lineage. Our work on it has featured in Top Gear, Car Magazine, and on Volkswagen’s own website.
One of the best ranges of any van we convert
The 79 kWh battery delivers up to 276 miles WLTP, and a real-world 220 to 250 miles depending on conditions. A 10 to 80% rapid charge takes around 30 minutes at up to 185 kW.
A power source on board (from 2026)
Newer ID. Buzz vans add a 2.0 kW Vehicle-to-Load output, letting the van’s main battery run 240V appliances such as the induction hob or a heater directly. It changes how we can build the electrics, and it’s one more reason the Buzz is an easy electric camper to live with. With older vans we can still offer excellent functionality with our campervan electric set-up.
Handcrafted, not flat-packed
Every Buzz conversion is built by hand in our East Sussex workshop by skilled cabinet makers. We strip the van back, insulate and line it properly, and build the furniture from FSC-certified wood and solid joinery. We never use plastic trim to hide a poor finish.
Why we convert the short-wheelbase Cargo
A retro classic revisited
We convert the short-wheelbase ID. Buzz Cargo, the panel van. The long-wheelbase Buzz only comes in the UK as the Life passenger version, with the van’s electrics routed behind the rear trim. That trim can’t come out without exposing the wiring, which means the van can’t be insulated properly, so we don’t convert it. The SWB Cargo is the right base for a clean, fully insulated conversion.

Our ID. Buzz designs
We have three designs to choose from, each with plenty of room to customise the colour scheme and finish. The price shown is for a complete, ready-to-camp conversion. Options and the base vehicle are added on top.
Chamonix
Our pull-out slat bed and a full kitchen. The most generous open-plan interior.
Mandalay
Our rock and roll bed on rails with belted rear seats. Our most versatile layout.
Surf Buzz
A simpler, lighter, more affordable build. With two or three belted seats in the rear, this is a fully lined van with a full-width bed and power for the essentials.
The Chamonix and the Mandalay are full builds with the same kitchen, materials, hand-built furniture and insulation, differing in the bed and the seating. The Surf Buzz is a simpler, lighter take: a lined van with a full-width bed and enough power for the essentials.

- New, from £38,340 inc VAT After the £5,000 Plug-in Van Grant. A brand-new Cargo SWB. Newer vans also gain the 2026 Vehicle-to-Load capability.
- Used, from around £27,600 inc VAT.Up to around £45,600 depending on age, mileage and specification. Quality used Cargo vans come with the balance of VW's warranty plus the eight-year battery warranty, which transfers with the vehicle.
How our pricing works
Each design has one base conversion price that buys a complete, ready-to-camp campervan. You then add only the options you want, and the base vehicle is bought separately. So your total is always conversion + any add-ons + vehicle. Two invoices, one campervan.

The five-year Sunbox warranty covers our conversion workmanship and the parts we build and fit ourselves: the furniture, insulation, lining, flooring and the wiring we install. Bought-in items keep their own manufacturer warranties. Appliances are typically covered for 24 months, and the Horizon pop-top for three years.
Conversion warranty work is carried out at our workshop in Newhaven. If you don’t live close to us and would prefer cover that allows the conversion to be repaired anywhere in the UK, we can supply an Autogard warranty in place of ours for up to 36 months, at an extra charge. Lifetime support comes as standard: we’re a small business and we want you to enjoy your van, so get in touch any time something comes up.

Frequently asked questions
New or used?
Most of our customers choose used. A quality used Cargo comes with the balance of VW’s warranty plus the transferable eight-year battery warranty, and costs less than new.
Why don't you convert the long-wheelbase Buzz?
The LWB only comes in the UK as the Life passenger version, with the van’s electrics routed behind the rear trim. That trim can’t come out without exposing the wiring, which means the van can’t be insulated properly. So we convert the short-wheelbase Cargo instead.
How many can it sleep?
Two adults in any of the three designs. Add the Horizon pop-top with roof bed and the Chamonix or Mandalay becomes a 4-berth.
What's the difference between the three designs?
The Chamonix and Mandalay are full builds (hand-built kitchen, insulation, lithium electrical system). The Chamonix has a pull-out slat bed and a view out of the rear doors. The Mandalay has a rock and roll bed on rails with belted rear seats. The Surf Buzz is a simpler, lighter, more affordable lined van with a full-width bed and power for the essentials.
How much does it cost?
Each design has one base conversion price that buys a complete, ready-to-camp camper: Chamonix from £20,399, Mandalay from £22,750, Surf Buzz from £9,995. You add only the options you want, then the base vehicle (from around £27,600 used). As a guide, a Chamonix with the pop-top on a used Buzz comes to around £57,134 all in.
Does the camper drain my driving range?
No. On the Chamonix and Mandalay the habitation system runs off its own lithium leisure battery and inverter, independent of the driving battery, so nothing you do in the camper touches your range. If you have a very new van with V2L, then your induction hob and any heating may draw from the traction battery, but we’ll talk you through all the options.
Can I cook off-grid?
Yes, on the Chamonix and Mandalay. You can cook a full meal on the induction hob off-grid, run lights, fridge and water pump, and top the leisure battery back up from solar, as you drive, or on a campsite hook-up.
