About Sunbox Campers

Sunbox Campers is a family-run business, based in Newhaven, East Sussex. We create beautifully designed, artisan, sustainable campers serving customers across the UK.

How Sunbox started?

Sunbox began because we wanted a campervan and couldn’t find the one we had in mind. Everything out there was either mass-produced and a bit soulless, or built to a price with plastic trim hiding a rushed finish. We wanted something hand made, sustainable, and lovely to actually live in. So we built it ourselves. The first one was converted on the street outside our house, learning as we went, doing everything by hand. From that first build, we started making them for other people, one camper at a time, all by hand, and grew it from there. We were early to electric. Back when almost everyone else was still only converting diesel vans, we were already building electric campervans, and we’ve specialised in them ever since. That head start means we understand these vans in a way few converters do: how to insulate and wire them properly, how to get the most from the battery, and how to make an electric camper genuinely work for off-grid life. It is one of the things we are best known for, and few people in the UK have been doing it as long. We’ve kept it hand built on purpose. Every Sunbox is still made by hand, not flat packed and not sent out to a factory. We use natural, sustainable materials because they’re better to live with, and we’d rather do fewer vans properly than more of them quickly. Quality, sustainability, and the kind of life a camper is actually for: that’s what we build around, and it’s still just us and a small team of makers doing it.

Our Conversions

We offer small to medium campervan conversions on vehicles. On top of this, Sunbox Campers can help you to choose and source your base van. All Sunbox Campers conversions include a fully equipped kitchen, your choice of luxury upholstery.

We have a range of design options and our premium ‘build to order’ service includes van sourcing and customisation options where you can choose the colours and finish of your van as well as various extras such as the number of windows, and additional items such as heating.

Sustainability

Escaping in a campervan creates a more minimal way of living, without the need (or space!) for unnecessary material possessions. It reminds us of the importance of slow, conscious travel and gives us more time to appreciate our planet.

We use sustainable materials in our conversions where possible, and we pride ourselves on being a sustainable campervan company.

All our wood is FSC-certified from sustainable sources
The majority of our campers can function off-grid with solar energy
We use local suppliers for our products whenever possible
We use organic Natural Fibre Insulation (NFI) in all our vans, made from sheep’s wool
Our upholstery and flooring suppliers have been chosen for their high quality and sustainability standards
