  1. VW E-Transporter

Model Price:  Brand new from £46,784
Range: Up to 201 miles

Volkswagen says:
“The e-Transporter comes with rear-wheel drive, with an all-wheel drive version available at a later date. In addition to standard diesel model specification, the all-electric model also features individually controllable heated seats, heat pump, single-zone automatic air conditioning and all-season tyres with Commerce Plus, or heated multi-function steering wheel and full LED rear lights with exclusive light signature with Commerce Pro.”

Our verdict:
For campervan enthusiasts like us, the VW Transporter will always scream adventure and fun! It’s a great choice for a campervan conversion, due to its spacious load area and payload capacity. We love working with this van! Sunbox Campers can fit a range of designs into an E- Transporter including the Mandalay and Chamonix.

  1. VW ID Buzz

Model Price: Brand new from £59,135.
Range:
Up to 250 miles.

Volkswagen says:
“We had the unique opportunity to reinvent the legendary T1. And we seized it with the ID. Buzz. To bring its iconic design into the age of electric mobility, we have reinterpreted it with the characteristic design DNA of the ID. models. And with the ID. Buzz Cargo, you also benefit from the advantages of cost-effective electromobility at work.”

Our verdict:
This all-electric campervan combines nostalgic design with modern technology. It offers a spacious feel, twin power-sliding doors, and a range of up to 250 miles with fast-charging capabilities. You’ll be sure to turn heads with this impressive, award-winning vehicle. It mixes iconic style with futuristic features, which makes it a very exciting option for a campervan conversion. We were very lucky to be one of the first ever converters to get our hands on this van, which was then featured on the official VW website for our groundbreaking design. See our Buzz designs here.

  1. Citroen E-Dispatch

Model Price: Starting from £39,510 for the electric version. Readily available second hand with models available for much cheaper.
Range: Up to 240 miles.

This versatile electric van offers an efficient electric driving range of around 231 miles (WLTP). It features a modern design, a 10-inch central touchscreen display, and advanced safety features.

Our verdict:
We love converting this vehicle and it’s become one of our bestsellers this past year. The E-Dispatch offers a good balance of range and load space, with short- and long-wheelbase models available.

What’s more, it is extremely similar to three other electric vans on the market: the Peugeot e-Expert, Toyota Proace Electric and Vauxhall Vivaro-e. We particularly recommend the Mandalay and Chamonix designs for all of these vans.

  1. Nissan E-NV200

Price: Many used vans available from £5,000 and upwards.
Range:  124 to 187 miles

This compact, all-electric campervan offers a lot of load space. It is a good choice for eco-conscious campers, with a range of 124 to 187 miles.

Our verdict:
We love this dinky camper! It’s been available since 2014 so we’ve had plenty of practice with kitting it out as an electric campervan. Its compact size makes it super manoeuvrable, and the decent load space provides a fantastic foundation for a campervan conversion, especially for solo travellers or couples.

  1. VW E-Hybrid Caddy

Model price: From £31,679
Range: Up to 73.3 miles (WLTP) on electric power alone. The total range, combining the petrol engine and electric motor, will be significantly higher.

The Volkswagen Caddy eHybrid uses a 1.5-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, a 19.7kWh battery, and a 114hp electric motor. It offers an EV range of up to 74 miles (WLTP). The Caddy e-Hybrid provides a more compact option for a campervan, suitable for those who prioritize fuel efficiency and the ability to drive in electric-only mode for shorter distances or in urban areas.

Our Verdict: If you know Sunbox Campers, you’ll know that we specialise in the VW Caddy, our age-old favourite when it comes to micro campers. It can be converted into a cosy camper for one or two people, with all the functionality you would expect in a larger camper. The car-like driving experience is also a plus. We recommend the Mandalay, Zanzibar or Chamonix designs. Unfortunately, the E-Caddy is not yet available in the UK, but the Ford Transit Connect (next on the list!) is an identical base.

  1. Ford Transit Connect

Range: Up to 73 miles (all electric).
Price: From £24,000

Ford says:
The no-nonsense working van. Redesigned to cut through the noise. With long wheelbase (LWB) option. Choice of versatile Van or FlexCab bodystyles. And now available as a plug-in hybrid.

Our verdict: What a lovely little van! What’s exciting for us is that the Ford Transit Connect is structurally identical to the VW Caddy so we’ve got loads of experience in converting it with space-saving designs. It’s available in the UK now and it works well with any of our micro camper designs

We hope you enjoyed this round up of our six favourite small electric (and hybrid!) vans. Don’t forget that the government’s Plug-in Van Grant can help you to purchase any of the vans in this list. It’s recently been extended until March 2026, so make sure to jump on the electric camper trend as soon as you can!
